  • The best mashed potato is made with the boiled potato evaporated milk salt & pepper & lots of butter

  • Ok, so yeah by itself you want a crispy potato. But on Thanksgiving you NEED MASHED POTATOES! it goes best with turkey, you need gravy for the turkey and so you need mashed for the gravy. It's about food pairing. Christmas is when you do the cheesy crispy potato (because typically for my family), it is served with ham.

  • Holy crap, they made this way too hard to just end up with such a sadly soupy result. Then they completely overbuilt some weird sherry sauce and thought it was gravy.

  • The fact that dutchess potatoes didn’t come up in the conversation at all during this 46 minutes is astonishing. It’s favorite way to make potatoes because it’s creamy and fluffy inside and crispy outside, the best of both worlds 🥰

  • In my very humble non chef opinion those potatoes where way too runny for me. Now don't get me wrong, I have no doubt it all tastes amazing and I want to drink that gravy too but I like my mashed potatoes a wee bit lumpy. I do really like the crunchification though. That being said, Carla and Molly are an absolute hoot together and I'm so sad they're not doing videos anymore.

  • Some of my parents friends make these potatoes that they call party potatoes or funeral potatoes and it’s some kind of shredded cheesy creamy potato with corn flakes on the top

  • Wanted to watch this but I just cant do 46 min of watching possibly my favorite of all foods be disparaged and ultimately massacred. FOR THOSE WHO WANT ACTUALLY SUPER GOOD MASHED POTATOES: Peel, chop, then boil your potatoes until they offer no resistance when stabbed,(optionally add a few cloves of garlic in and just boil and mash with the potatoes) then drain and mash via ricer, masher, or even a fork or hand beater. WHILE STILL HOT mix in butter and heavy cream, plus salt and pepper to taste. Don't let them cool down too much or overmix or they can get gummy. You can make a healthier version with sour cream or milk, but if you want to go all out with richness for Thanksgiving, using cream to thin them rather than milk is the way to go. If desired you can also mix in cheese, chives, rosemary, like, whatever to make em fancier, but it's ultimately unnecessary. Go ahead and throw on the crispy topping if you want.

  • I think it’s amusing that they went out to get a poll and consistently didn’t listen to people’s answers because they’d already decided they wanted to make crispy potatoes (very bad scientific practice to take a survey with an answer you want in mind though)

    • Don't let this video paint a picture of mashed potatoes in America for you. I love watching these vids, but not sure how it's a 46-minute video to make mashed potatoes, by supposedly professional chefs, and they made the worst-looking mashed potatoes I have ever seen. They took something so easy and delicious and made it complicated and in the end, made gross-looking and loose texture mashed potatoes. kinda sad really.

  • Little reds with skin left on. Ton of butter. Ton of salt. Ton of pepper. Add milk. Smashed until chunky consistency. Put back in oven until the top crisps up. Done.

  • I LOVE potatoes, and I’ve had at least one Thanksgiving eating only mashed potatoes. It’s also pretty clear what the general public wants for Thanksgiving potatoes. Still, it’s fine that they didn’t want to do mashed potatoes. It was the condescending attitude that “mashed” people just don’t know any better that really bothered me.

  • Well that’s 46 minutes of my life I can not get back, that ended up making something completely unappealing.

  • A perfect mashed potato should have the consistency that when you push down with a ladle, it will form a crater to hold the gravy. Their creation has the consistency of runny instant potatoes.

  • How did they get mashed potatoes so wrong. Peel Irish red roosters. Gently boil until tender. Drain and then transfer back to pot on a very low heat to dry out potatoes completely. Add a good amount of Irish (Kerrygold) SALTED butter and a drop of cream. Mash with a potato masher until smooth. Simples. Season to taste.

  • What's wrong with these people? Whilst there's absolutely nothing wrong with mashed potatoes, they don't begin to compare with roast. That said, my favourite potatoes are sautéed, which aren't especially crispy. Surely, if you want crispy mashed potatoes, you just make fondant potatoes. Also what they made was far too loose to be mashed potato, it was more the consistency of creamed potato.
