  • The car in Brussels is probably for firefighters, since it says "Pompiers"

  • Anyone that is able to change an ambulance siren and knows about the Belgian siren, but chooses not to get the siren changed to the Belgian one is a fucking coward

  • Yknow, it just occurred to me that Americans will be terrified of being sick and missing work and having medical bills, but not wear a mask.

  • nowine.info/loft/qohukKDQaqefi4I/video

  • going after Disney like that damn, HBO..

  • This is only the start of the US Healthcare problem. When the profits of Healthcare are made by big pharma and insurance companies. When the backbone is the underpaid Healthcare workers who hold the entire system up. #RTstrong #RNstrong

  • for comparison, in a country with proper healthcare: our ambulances are driven by specially trained crews who get training in the sort of on-site care they're required to provide... and ofc all of that is *free* at point of use (ie, we pay our taxes like you do, but get that instead of a wildly overfunded military) - oh & ofc they get the same (world-class) medical coverage everyone gets. unsurprisingly, like most jobs that really need doing, they don't get paid enough.

  • I had a friend in college who almost went bankrupt because someone called EMS when she passed out. I dislocated my shoulder snowboarding once, and the 2 paramedics poking at my arm couldn't figure it out. One told me "Do you have anyone with you who can drive? I have a kid about your age who's also in College, so I'll tell you right now, the ambulance ride is not cheap".

  • 3k for an ambulance ride? That's not a functional price for almost anyone who isn't a millionaire! An ambulance ride here in B.C. costs a whopping...$75! Emergency services need to be affordable by the poorest. This is the wrong way round!

  • health care should be state owned

  • The only thing that bothers me with the Mickey Mouse joke is that Mickey is cheating on Minnie with Goofy

  • Shocking. In Germany we protested because we have to pay 10€ for any emergency transports.

  • *confused in Australian healthcare*

  • As an AEMT in NC thank you for shedding light on this subject! I love this field of work and I hope EMS can continue to grow!

  • Working for an ambulance company sucks, I got paid the same amount as my Walgreens cashier job.

  • Do not talk about EMS while summoning George Clooney and Kermit the Frog, 11pm challenge gone wrong!

  • As a paramedic I wish any of these stories where rare. They aren't, this happens everyday. Esp the trans care situation

  • I got charged $900 to ride in an ambulance across the street.

  • My father was killed in a car accident in January of 2020. Lifeline was immediately called, but there wasn't really any infrastructure and, according to the coroner, he only had about a 12 minute window for anything to be done in the first place. I met that coroner to identify my father's body at the county's old jail, where his body was being kept with two others in the former jail's cafeteria food cooler. It was at max capacity because it's a fucking food cooler. I have nothing against the coroner, he was fantastic. His main job is as an RN for the county hospital and is much more qualified than most rural elected coroners. Had my father been Lifelined, it would have taken around 20-30 min to get to a suitable hospital and area to land, and his bill would have been a little over $50,000 just for the heli.

  • Big ouchie trucks that go woop woop! 🤣

  • She can always refuse transport and that’s free… why don’t you talk about that

  • I swear, any time I hear about a business falling on hard times or anything about unfiltered capitalism, it usually includes the phrase "private equity firm." They are, by far, the most evil entity in the business world.

    • watchgirls18. com I'd really like to see a website with all the problems that have been pointed out by John Oliver's show and what's their current status: solved, in progress, still f'ed.

  • oh i get it.. cause you kinda look like kermit! love it

  • Took an ambulance literally across the street from a gas station to the hospital. $900 plus all the charges from the ER after.

  • As an emt I understand the idea of a living wage and maybe it's just in my area but being an EMT is not a career it's a job to gain experience to move into other first responder jobs and medical field jobs.

  • Not sure how it is in other states but in mine you can call the ambulance to the scene to render aid to you but as long as you don't let them transport you to the hospital you don't have to pay anything. I am an EMT and we get this ALL the time. We always get people who want us to fix them up as much as we can before we leave. I get it. I do. I have no issue with that. its just sad people don't wanna go to the hospital cause they have no insurance or just really bad insurance.

  • OMG! EMS not an essential service. EMTs and Paramedics should stand alone and if they become part of Fire Dept. they should be paid extra for that skill. The Fire Depts., the hospitals and health providers know about and yet no one if speaking up or supporting them. I was going to say in comes Big Business.

  • love how the same military that just abandoned hundreds of thousands of afghan citizens while retreating with its tail between its legs is eating up all the money that should be going to the broken ass american healthcare system

  • As someone who lives in Scandinavia all these problems seems insane. I pay 0

  • I watch this program as often as I can and I swear that watching you makes me remember (periodically) that we are really running on shoestrings and bubble gum now, aren't we? Like fuck dude.... We are really fucked and lots of countries globally aren't that far behind us.

  • Ambulances: Cost thousands of dollars to get one Ambulance drivers: Don't even see a fraction of that money

  • Sorry John Oliver. This isn't Europe, hence why businesses and people tend t0 thrive here. While you are getting rich off preaching to americans about a utopia, people continue to choose their jobs and careers and know very well how much they will earn, with what benefits. Take a course for a few months and become an EMT. Go to school for a few years and become a nurse. Go to school for a decade and become a doctor. People will always complain but hard work will get you farther in this country than anywhere else, hence why everyone wants to leave depressed europe and come here.

  • omg i never thougt you have to pay for ambulance servise there here in the eu is a right and its free. you have to stad up for yourselvs because thats insane

  • So…does anything work here in the United States?? How have we lasted this long?!

  • “Unfortunately, under the Reagan administration-“ Me: (like Josh from the Drake and Josh show): “*Reagan.*”

  • In the first two minutes i'm already being emotionally scarred by this show

  • What I would have like to see is comparisons from other countries so we could see the differences.

  • I was experiencing difficulty breathing and a racing heart beat. I used a Lyft to get to the ER

  • I’d like to forget that Mickey and Goofy scene.

  • The sign language guy for de blasio was hilarious.... how did you not comment on wtf was going on there, I'm not fluent in US signing but it didn't look legit to us

  • 0:29🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂👏👏

  • Be an ally, read a tweet🤣

  • "Hello, fetish artist? This is LastWeekTonight w/ John Oliver. We would like to commission several seconds of Mickey Mouse hentai"

  • There are 3 rooms in the second quest of the NES game Legend of Zelda. The rooms are locked with a man forcing you to make a choice: "Leave your life or money." When I was young, never would I think this room have any similarities to the real life. As of 6 years ago, more and more starting to see a much larger picture of that specific situation nationwide...

  • 2.9k private ems owners disapprove

  • Former EMT here, (active 2013-2018) I made $9.25ish for a 12 hour shift when I started and around 13-14.50 when I left. The reason it was raised to that level by the time I left was because the minimum wage had gone up to 13-14.50 (I can’t remember exactly what it was at the time) and in LA that’s starvation wages. Try to imagine getting paid minimum wage to risk your life, health, and mental well being. From the perspective of EMS it’s tragically clear that we live in a failed state and that healthcare in this country is modern day highway robbery. These ambulance companies are money grabbing hucksters who try to short change their staff, their patients, and even the equally evil hospital systems they serve. I’m only 4 minutes into the above video (don’t worry I’ll force myself to watch the rest despite how triggered I am by the subject matter) but I’m going to guess the Jon will likely talk about these private ambulance company’s ties and relation to crime and even the mob in some cases. It was very common to hear about a shady ambulance company getting raided by FBI for Medicare fraud. I know people who had FBI SWAT teams point guns at them because that was the level of crime that was going on there. A company by the name APT used to pick up people from skid row and make up some BS on their assessment saying the patient needed things they really didn’t. Hospitals would go through the whole nine yards and would test this, monitor that, and then bill for it all. Obviously since they were from the row, bills weren’t going to patients (directly) but instead going to Medicare and Medi-Cal. The vermin at the top made money hand over fist and flaunted it. EMTs were occasionally involved and would sometimes get kick backs for fraudulent activities. More often then not, there would be situations where we were expected to drop off patients in places that clearly could not take care of them and it was expected of us that we would comply no questions asked. You only rocked the boat once or twice before they started looking for reasons to cut you loose. Due to a philosophy of enforced apathy the sentiment of “it’s not my problem anymore” was rampant amongst management and staff and because of the money factor patients pleas to be taken elsewhere or to be provided contact with social services fell on deaf ears. Try to imagine your in the back of an ambulance and you want to go somewhere to get the help you need- but oh no- there are no options here. You go where we take you. Let’s say we get there and it’s just a no-go all around.. like for whatever reason the drop off just doesn’t suit the patient’s NEEDS not WANTS. So the patient says “no take me back to the hospital”, and we say “yeah no sorry you should probably call 911 if you want to do that”. Healthcare for profit is an evil system and if you disagree I dare you to step out onto the front lines and into the streets and try saying that to your heart of hearts. Deep down you’ll know. Helping people is not supposed to be like this...

    • watchgirls18. com George being able to summon Kermit with a clap is really filling in the lore for the Oliverse.

  • tf was that at the start

  • He went way too far with that mickey mouse joke

  • Think your stuff is pretty Good John, but we could really do without the belittling of every father's role in having a child. If youre somehow unaware, despite your news segments, our country is in a culture war witha group that uses every misstep to mis-represent liberal ideals. You handed them a great talking point on a silver platter "John Oliver says men have no role in child birth". Of course the women on that day shares a majority of the difficulty involved, but both mother and father undergo an extreme emotional moment making sure the offspring they will be caring, loving and spending a majority of their future time and money on is safe and healthy when entering this world. The joke that someone's doesn't experience one if the most stressful and impactful days of their life just because their a male when their child is born is the gasoline that keeps the bullshiters going

  • If Fox News wants to keep immigrants out of the US they should show them John's shows. 🤦

  • Only scratching the surface. I work as an EMT in NYC. In Paramedic school. On average, EMTs and Medics have 2-3 jobs just to have a roof over their heads and feed their families. No quality of life.

  • Do an episode, on the stupid stuff the PPC Party of canada are saying

  • The car in Brussels at 0:25 says 'POMPIERS' though, it's a firetruck... somehow :p

  • Awesome!

  • So...how does the US get away with stating they're a first world country? I know they signed a document, and have a big army to argue anything they want. But really? This is pretty ghetto. Also, Uber should hire drivers for a slightly higher rate for having first aid certificates who drive with gear.

  • can you please do a segment on the stock market and how market makers, hedge funds and dark pools are ripping the retail traders off? I feel it would be really informative and a highly rated episode if you did.

  • i live in canada , i was hiking in northern british columbia , i fell off a clif , broke 30 bones , was air lifted to a hospital , did 6 surgeries , spent a year in rehab , guess how much i paid? zero $

  • I think people in the United States need to realise that capitalism cannot and should not be implemented everywhere. If anything can be made into profit, everything will. This is just sad.

  • I hate you so much for that micky mouse scene

  • the job. The pay is terrible and it takes a toll on your body and mental health. We are literally struggling to fill shifts.

  • In fairness, geese are in fact NOT birds but a physical manifestation of pure unrestrained malice.

  • will hear that EMS is the red headed step child of emergency services so it is so incredibly nice to have national coverage on this

  • I was having trouble walking today because I suffer from a nerve disorder and I had an ambulance literally stalking me. There is no way that I would even consider an ambulance as an option. It's sad. Sad only.

    • Can we go back to George? I think I saw a bottle of Cask Strength Maker's Mark behind him!

  • And once again Regan fucks and continues fuck us

  • As a Medic, its very baffling to me that we EMS providers we are not viewed as an essentials to our cities yet we provide the services and all of the transports to the hospitals depending on the county 🙄.

  • i need him to rank ems sirens by how funny they are

  • Man, you guys over there need to look after your EMTs better! All fun and games until you need an EMT! Oh yeah, I forget you get screwed financially if you need the Emergency Dept. Weird country, I'd love to visit but would hate to live there.

  • That Mickey Mouse analogy got me fucked up.

  • I still remember my parents telling me that my our insurance, provided by the fire department, did not cover an ambulance and we were NEVER to enter one if we were involved in an accident at school

  • "Big ouchie trucks that go 'whoop, whoop'." Literally made me spit out my water 😂

  • This is bananas, how can somebody get COVID while bringing someone to a hospital and then not being able to go to that hospital for COVID? How can people pretend ambulances aren’t essential?

  • Those bangs are DEFINITELY not poetic.

  • Reagan was arguably one of the worst presidents whose bad policies have reverberated through time with ever greater repercussions as: ended funding across the government including to the Federal Emergency Medical Services Systems grant program; vetoed the Agricultural Labor Relations Act which would have given farmworkers the right to collectively bargain; fired striking air traffic controllers destroying their union informing companies union busting was now ok, leading to unions dying out; wages stagnation began with unions dying out ; began the fraudulent trickle down propaganda to cut taxes for the wealthy; simplified the tax code by lopping of the top marginal tax brackets; tax revenue plummeted with the massive tax cuts for wealthy people; community mental health care was gutted when funded ended; the "moral majority" and evangelicals were used as campaign standards, beginning the erosion of the separation between church and state; began the school voucher program twisted to eviscerate public schools while funding for college grants was drastically reduced also calling to end free tuition for state college and university students; then ended funding for the civilian conservation corp typically a youths first job; set the standard for using criminal deals with foreign nations to get elected and for having the most number indicted during a presidency til the FG while "Teflon Don" got off with no repercussions . • Yo imagine if companies like Uber start thinking and making their own private EMS systems?! A black ambulance with Uber EMS written on the side and their own private paramedics.

  • When I drove for lyft, about 20% of my rides were for medical patients.

  • So many John's episodes are about private equity

  • heroes. They save lives on a daily basis, in the worst of circumstances, with almost no resources. They see things most of us will never understand. Thank you!!!

  • Can we go back to George? I think I saw a bottle of Cask Strength Maker's Mark behind him!

  • In my state of a California..I had no idea... DADUQ?!

  • So if the Ambulance services are paying their workers $36k a year, but they bill their patients $3000 per call, even if they got 1 call per day that is around $1M a year, where is that other $900k going?

    • “Unfortunately, under the Raegan admin-“ Me: Audible groan

  • self called first world leading country USA is unable to raise taxes for medicare for all?

    • The amount of taxes needed is impossible to get.

  • While EMS crew are still not paid enough in Finland, their help is dirt cheap. I am happy to pay some extra taxes so I do not have to worry about getting sick, or asking for an ambulance. You really need to dismantle that ("best in the world") system or yours. Seriously. That Clooney and Kermit part was hilarious :D

  • I live Ontario. Whenever I need an ambulance it's been 60$ - 65$

  • its still a guess.

  • An ambulance is only $3000 in Mass?! I'm impressed.

  • My history teacher told me that the 2Trillion spent in Afghanistan only went to warlords. military generals, war industrialist, contractors, gun dealers, afghan opium dealers but no money for American medical services, housing problem, school loans, etc. They could have solved their problems many times over. I guess my history teacher was correct but its still a guess.

    • @Apple Picker no I just know how the government budget works. Every year on the first Monday in February the president submits a budget proposal and congress then votes on it. Also could you perhaps give a bit more attention in your next English lesson? The second half of your paragraph does not make sense.

    • @Dewaldt Allocated? Where you in the room when they planned the allocation? Like you heard it straight from the main man???? lol. I guess it all boils down to priorities. Clean your own backyard first or your neighbors? But again I guess you've already figured it out eh... its allocated.

    • Well the 2 trillion was allocated to be spent on stuff in Afghanistan. Why would you spend stuff you allocate towards Afghanistan on American stuff.

  • Or move to Canada. I believe an ambulance costs... But only about $200. And the hospital care is free. And no we are not communist and don't have bizarre sirens

    • account or buy them pizza or give them applause and calling them heros is somehow good enough. Just to inform ya folks...you might as well spit in their face. It's BS.

  • In Hong Kong, ambulance service is free, emergency room fee is $100 HKD ($13 USD)

  • help us.

  • EMTs you say? nowine.info/loft/rY9nk6fJm5usgII/video

  • I love when Americans trash Canadian health care system and the irony is you find lots of Americans in Canadian health care centers. xD

  • Why did ya'll have to make the mickey fucker goofy

  • I already liked the sound of the ambulances in Brussels - but now I'll always think of Mickey whenever I see or hear one passing by...

  • I wasn't ready for that Mickey 🐭 visual 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

  • “Unfortunately, under the Raegan admin-“ Me: Audible groan

  • So the cool sounding regular siren versus your weird/creepy nightmare sounding siren? no thanks dude

  • 4:42 does someone else see a creature in the picture?

  • "be an ally, read a tweet" made me lol
